[Music] [HowToDo's] [Panels] [45Degrees]

The next portion of my acoustic foam extravaganza is the corner’s 45 degree angle reflector ( or refractor, absorber or whatever). These were created using the pink insulation foam (I wish this foam was gray or white, because the pink hue sucks!)

Cutting triangles

  • Cut a perfect square of 1’ X 1’ and segment it in half as shown (45 angle was attained using the angled ruler shown below the first panel).
  • WARNING: Do not use the same naked blade technique I used for the acoustic foam! This foam is way harder and if the knife gets stuck within a pass, your fingers will take the heat!
  • The resulting triangles measure about 17.7” through the hypotenuse. This is the same width the final panels should be cut to.
  • The length I chose was 4’. (Please see below)

The final product is shown first to make it easier to explain the next steps.

  • Choose where you want the isosceles triangles to be fixed at the back of the panel. Mark the spots where the dry wall screws will go through and do a pre drill with them (I used my battery drill/screwdriver).
  • This foam will take screws easily, but do not believe it is like wood, so do not abuse it.

45DegreeScrews

Dry Wall Screws will be used to attach the triangles

45degreesScrewsGlue1

  • Remove the pre-screwed screws and turn the 4’x17.6” panel (the triangles will be fixed to the other side).
  • Put some glue in the area where the triangle’s side will reside.
  • Place the triangle and screw it in place. Be patient! It will be hard to jig this assembly. But since the structure is so lightweight, it is quite easy to grab it with one hand and screw with the other.
  • Let the glue cure overnight.
  • Glue your foam to the side opposing the triangles.’
  • Let the glue cure overnight.

I then used sticky back velcro from Walmart (7596791226) but any adhesive velcro will so. You can also sew the velcro to your walls using a Singer sewing machine but as you believe this nonsense, I am laughing the crap out of me!
